… Of Your Stuff This Halloween!

According to age-old folktales, you can keep a vampire out if you don’t invite him or her in, but what about other bad guys?!

Watch Out For Local Ghouls

It appears most burglars can live locally and will conduct surveillance on homes that they want to target. Typically, they will live only a few kilometres away from your home and take the time to watch your family’s daily schedule.

They will also check for signs to see if you are away on a holiday by watching if the mail is collected, if the rubbish bins go out, if the lawns are mowed, and if the lights go on and off. At these times, the help of neighbours or family friends, as well as some security devices such as timers, could be of great assistance in not letting potential burglars know you are away.

How To Ward Off Unwanted Visitors

If a burglar knows you have a security system installed, there is a greater chance they will avoid targeting your home. In the US a report showed that 60% of convicted burglars would make the decision to target elsewhere if they knew there was the presence of a security system — better than garlic to a vampire — make sure you display your security stickers!

There are also many other types of smart devices and cameras that can be used to protect your home.

Don’t Invite Fiends

Did you know that unlike vampires, many burglars don’t wait for an invitation and enter straight through the front door. It is more common than many homeowners think, with a reported 34% of burglars taking the opportunity of entering through an unlocked or easily breached front door.

As well, 25% of homeowners are reported to forget to lock their back doors. Make sure you keep your doors locked at all times for both your home and your family’s safety.

It is also a good idea to check that your front door is strong and the locks are of good quality and work well!

Who’s Lurking In The Shadows

It is well known that the majority of break-ins occur between 10am and 3pm when burglars think they will be undetected because people are at work or at school.

The daylight time slot actually provides burglars with an opportunity to break into your home if they can determine you are out. It is not very pleasant, rather downright sickening to know that some monster has violated your home.

It is also worrying to know that in nearly three out of ten burglaries someone is at home. Security cameras and locking devices can help prevent attacks and/or identify offenders.

Now You See Them, Now You Don’t

With ghost-like qualities, a burglar who knows what he is doing can be in and out of your house within ten minutes with precision-like timing.

Burglars look for homes that provide easy access, so they can quickly break in, get what they want and get out before being noticed. It is reported that around 23% of burglars enter through unsecured or poorly secured windows, and another 9% of burglars gain access through the garage.

Increased security and strengthened barriers at all points of your premises can help to prevent unwanted ghouls from entering your home.

Enough To Make You Vomit

Security should be at the top of everyone’s list everyday, and should extend to protecting your possessions outside of the home too.

With a frustrating increase in bicycle theft, a new bicycle lock has been developed by ‘SkunkLock’. A thief can cut through most bike locks in less than a minute, and in response developers invented a lock with a hollow chamber to hold pressurised gases designed to induce vomiting in 99% of people at about 60cm away.

A fiendish idea to foil villains who are behaving in a monstrous way.
